Privacy Policy

Suki Scan (the "app") is operated by Doanything AI (ABN 15 938 400 909), a business based in Australia ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in connection with the app. We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles ("APPs") under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), to the extent they apply to us.

Suki Scan does not require you to create an account. We have deliberately designed the app to collect as little information as possible.

Information We Handle

Anonymous device identifier — A randomly generated ID stored on your device using the iOS Keychain (Secure Enclave). This ID is sent with each API request and is used to authenticate the request (HMAC-SHA256), enforce rate limits, and track free-credit usage. It is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID or any other personal information, and we cannot identify you from it.
Images you choose to translate — When you translate an image, the image is transmitted over HTTPS to our backend and then to our translation provider for processing. Images are used only to produce the translated output and are not retained by us after processing is complete.
Terms you choose to look up — When you use the in-app dictionary / explain feature, the selected term and any surrounding context text you have chosen to share are sent to an AI model for explanation.
Subscription status — Whether your device has an active subscription is shared with our backend on each request so we can enforce entitlements. Apple handles the underlying purchase and we do not see your Apple ID or payment details.

Information We Do Not Collect

No name, email address, phone number or postal address (any name you set in Settings is stored only on your device and never sent to us).
No user accounts, passwords or login credentials.
No location data or GPS coordinates.
No advertising identifiers (we do not serve ads).
No contacts, calendar, health or biometric data.
No audio recording — Suki Scan does not use the microphone.

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

Most of your app data is stored locally on your device and never leaves it. This includes:

Your translated-image library (stored in SQLite and the app's file system)
Collections, decks, vocabulary and word cache
Credits, settings, preferences and any profile name you set
Your anonymous device identifier (in the iOS Keychain)

We have no access to data stored locally on your device.

Third Parties and Overseas Disclosures

To deliver the app, we disclose limited information to the following third parties. Some of these recipients process information outside Australia, including in the United States. By using the app you consent to these overseas disclosures for the purposes described.

We do not sell, rent or trade your information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Data Retention

Images — not retained by us after translation is complete.
Anonymous device ID records on our backend (used for rate limiting, credit counters and subscriber usage) are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the service and are automatically expired after a period of inactivity.
Local data on your device is retained until you delete it or uninstall the app.

Security

All API traffic is transmitted over HTTPS. Your anonymous device identifier and authentication key are generated and stored on your device using the iOS Keychain. Requests to our backend are signed with HMAC-SHA256. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the limited information we handle.

Children's Privacy

Suki Scan is not directed at children. The App Store age rating for the app should be treated as the minimum appropriate age for use. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

Your Rights

Because we do not hold personal information that identifies you, most access and correction requests cannot be meaningfully fulfilled — there is nothing identifiable for us to retrieve or correct. You can, however:

Reset your anonymous device ID by deleting and reinstalling the app, which will also clear all local app data.
Manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings.

If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles, you can make a complaint in writing to the email address above. We will investigate your complaint and respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
